Nother Day, Nother Dolla

K, so I made this career move and that is why I have been too crazy busy to post. I am now an independent contractor. I am still working for Inkbyte on a freelance basis, but I found a way to make more $$$ so had to take it. I am working through a company called icreatives. It is like a staffing agency just for designers. It has been a great experience so far. I get to travel all over south Florida doing jobs for all kinds of different companies. The jobs have lasted anywhere from 1 day to 3 weeks so far. Mostly, I go to big companies and work in their marketing department. Have gotten to do some crazy cool stuff and go to awsome places. For example, I did a couple of illustrations for the Miami police department of their badge and patch which are probably all over Miami by now. Pretty cool, huh? And the money ain't to shabby either. I only have to work 2 weeks out of the month to pay all my bills and play as much as I want. Its very nice.
I bought this kick-ass digital camera, but I always forget to bring it, so no pics yet. Promise I will remember soon and post lots of pics. There is so much to see and do here, it must be shared.
Had my first hurricane (Katrina, actually it was a tropical storm when it hit us). The storm itself was not a big deal at all, not having power for 5 days sucked, but hurricane parties are the best. And the next day, we raided everyone's freezer cuz the shit was gonna go bad anyway and had this massive cook-out. Was a blast.

I'm really trying to keep up with this blogg thing. I think it is awsome that everybody is doing it so we can keep tabs on one another, but I sometimes slack a little cuz I am always so busy.
Work is going great still. Pete and Bellkiss (my bosses) took me out to lunch the other day, so that was nice. And Pete is taking me down to Miami sometime next week to meet with one of our clients. It is about a 20min to 1hour drive depending on traffic. (yes traffic is that bad). Haven't been down there yet except for the airport to pick Jodi up, but that doesn't really count. ooh, don't know if anyone has seen it or not, but there is this show called Miami Ink that just started about a tattoo shop in Miami. One of my friends went there for a tattoo and that episode should be on Tuesday night. Should check it out. Her name is Cindy. How awsome is that!
Nathan finally got his Barnes & Noble job. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but at least he will be able to pay his half of the bills. And he is still working on getting a design job.
There is a full moon this weekend and so one of my friends wants to go over to the beach so we can watch the sunset and moonrise on the ocean. Supposed to be really beautiful. I'll take my camera. Actually, I think I'll head over to the beach now, good day for it. Later.

Greetings from Florida!

Hi everybody
Starting my second day of work today. Let me just say I LOVE MY JOB!!! Peter (my boss) is really cool and laid back. He is young and hip and from New York and his wife (my other boss) came in yesterday and brought me Hersey Kisses. They are the best bosses ever.
Florida is absolutely beautiful. Nathan and I are having a great time. Have met lots of really cool people. We are having a housewarming party this weekend. Can't wait. Will post pics on Flickr later.
We are also getting ready for our first hurricane- hurricane Dennis. It is supposed to be west of us though, so just going to be some strong winds and whatnot, nothing too bad.
Anywho, time to get to work. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!

Moving Sucks

I swear, you just have no idea how much stuff you have until you have to move it. Where did it all come from? ahhh!
But on the upside, it will all be over with soon. Wednesday is my last day at work. I have worked here at Gilbert for 4 1/2 years. Can't believe its been that long. I start my new fabulous job at Inkbyte on the 6th. And the awsome thing, we don't start work until 9:30! How sweet is that? I'm really stoked about the new job and ready to get started.
Nathan is bringing the moving truck up from Little Rock Wednesday night so we can load all of my massive amount of stuff, get some sleep, then head out first thing Thursday morning. If I can help it at all, this will be the last time I make this drive. Strictly flying from now on. My grandma even offered to buy my plane ticket so that I can come home for christmas. Isn't that sweet?
I have been on the phone most of the morning to get my address changed on all of my accounts. Moving is such a pain! Can't wait to get it over with!

woo hoo!!!

Just got back from the lovely Florida today and I had a great time. My interview was on Friday, the guy was disgustingly cool and nice, and the job is mine!!! YAY!!! I start the first week of July.
Then, after a grueling hunt for an apartment, we finally stumbled across the perfect one on Saturday and sign the lease this week. The guy even went down on the rent cuz he liked us so much. It is an awsome 2br 2ba duplex with a huge screened in patio in the back. Super nice. So we are moving next Thursday. Just in time for the 4th of July, and I believe we are having a BBQ party at our new place. So very exciting. Met tons of fantastic people and had a blast. Can't wait to get moved! I will be an official citris-head by the end of next week!

Finally!

Yesterday I got a phone call from one of the agencies in Florida that I sent a book to. He wants to meet with me and see my work. Lucily, Nathan and I are going down there next week to find an apartment so I set up an interview for next Friday. I'm so excited! It is one of my favorite agencies that I have looked at down there. It is called inkbyte design.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much cuz it is just my first interview down there, but I would really really love to get this job. I'll let you know how it goes.

hi there

Ok, so I was skimming through Daniel's Blogg novel and it made me feel a little bad cuz I haven't even done one yet. And so now I'm doing it.
Well, I am moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL (aka the Venice of America) on the first of July and one of my nearest and dearest who you all know and love, Nathan, is going with me. Yay! We are going down there the 15th to find a place to live and hopefully will have interviews while we are there. I made some cute little books with my business card, coverletter, resume, and samples of my print, web, and illustration work and sent them to some of the top agencies in Florida. Probably need to call them today actually. Also, the band that I have been working for there wants to hire me permanetly. The cd design is finished and has been sent to the printer. Now, I am working on a website for them. I think that I am also going to visit some of the recording studios while I'm there to see about getting some more work that way. Oh, and would also like to see about teaching another kickboxing class. Would be a great way to earn a little extra cash and get all buff and ready for the beach! ;)
Nathan is hoping to land a job at one of the many many magazines down there (preferably a fashion one). He is so excited. He calls me at least a couple of times a day to talk about it and has already started packing. JD is probably relocating to Memphis (Amber's couch to be more exact) to try his luck there.
I guess that's about it for now. I'm really glad that everyone is doing this blogg thing. Its great to see what everyone is up to. I wish everyone the best of luck in there job hunt and all of your other endeavors.
